October 29th, 2018 is National Cat Day! We all love our feline friends and thought this was a great opportunity to share some Paw-sitively Purr-fect Cat Facts!!

-The little tufts of hair in a cat’s ear that help keep out dirt direct sounds into the ear, and insulate the ears are called “ear furnishings.”

-Cats can detect odors even if they are diluted to one part per million. Cats rub to other cats and people to pass their scent and collect yours. When they are licking themselves they are carefully removing your scent from their fur—nothing personal.

-Female cats tend to be right pawed, while male cats are more often left pawed. Interestingly, while 90% of humans are right handed, the remaining 10% of lefties also tend to be male

-Having a cat helps release stress and anxiety, which is known to lower blood pressure and protect against heart problems.

-10 percent of a cat’s bones are in his tail

-On average, cats spend 2/3 of every day sleeping. That means a nine-year-old cat has been awake for only three years of its life

-There are up to 60 million feral cats in the United States alone.

-Each cat’s nose pad is unique, similar to a human’s fingerprint - A nose pad is also known as “nose leather.” Did you know that?

-Cats are believed to be the only mammals who don't taste sweetness.

-The scientific name for hairball is “bezoar”

-The biggest wildcat today is the Siberian Tiger

-Cats have up to 100 different vocalizations -- dogs only have 10.

-A cat can’t climb head first down a tree because every claw on a cat’s paw points the same way. To get down from a tree, a cat must back down.

-When dogs wag their tails, they may be expressing happiness. But this isn't the case for cats! When your cat wags her tail, it's her way of warning you that you are getting on her last nerve.

-Cats have contributed to the extinction of 33 different species.

- A group of kittens is called a kindle, and a group of cats is called a clowder
